Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?

This question was so much easier to answer when I was in my childhood. I quite literally played all day long. I didn’t have the stressors of adult life weighing me down. But slowly as the years went on and more and more responsibilities became part of my life. The less and less I spent time playing.
I had just about lost all ways of playing when my son was born. But having him around opened up the locked chest of adventure. I love to go exploring new places and going to parks. My son brought the joy back into just taking the time each day to stop and play. While my play looks way different now that he is a teenager then it did when he was a toddler. We still enjoy going out and taking time to play. Whether it is going for a bike ride or tossing around the baseball. Having time to unwind and play is a needed part of growing up.
Since we live full time in our RV and have plans to travel this summer. There will be an enormous amount of play involved. Right now during the winter in Northern Canada it looks like going out for walks on the sunny days and playing with the big dogs. It can also look like grabbing a board game on a snowy, blowy day and play it as a family. It also looks like my son helping me in the kitchen to prepare supper or make cookies.
Taking the time to find the JOY in each day is a big part of “playtime” for me. If I find myself struggling to find the joy in the mundane then it reflects in my home. If I don’t have the spirit of joy in me then how can I properly reflect it to the people around me?
